Gantry Crane
Gantry Cranes: An Increasingly Popular Alternative to Overhead Bridge Cranes
What is a gantry crane?
A gantry crane is a kind of overhead crane with supports that hold it up that are fixed in location, which means that crane cannot move, so everything that it is going to lift must be brought to the crane. Gantry cranes play a vital role in factories and construction, where they are used to move things. Since the gantry cranes are used to move heavy things, it is necessary for operators to receive special training in lifting techniques. In some countries, operating license are needed.
Gantry cranes have become a widely accepted alternative to overhead bridge cranes. This type of crane is similar to the bridge crane except that it runs on a runway at the floor level. The bridge is supported by a pair of rigid steel legs which are carried by a pair of end trucks along the floor level runway.
